How long does a wax melt last?

Around 8 to 12 hours of usable fragrance for a standard melt, which is three to five evenings for most people. The wax will keep melting long after the scent has gone — judge it by smell, not by whether it still liquefies. More detail.

Can you reuse a wax melt?

Yes. The same wax can be melted and re-solidified repeatedly until the fragrance is spent. Once it stops smelling of anything when hot, replace it.

Why can't I smell my wax melts?

Usually one of four things: the well is overfilled, the burner well is too deep and narrow, you have judged it inside twenty minutes, or nose blindness has set in. Full troubleshooting.

Are wax melts better than candles?

For scent throw per pound, generally yes — a melt has no wick, so all the fragrance goes into the air rather than partly burning off. Candles win on ambience. Compared in full.

Are wax melts safe for pets?

Used sensibly, yes — but keep the burner well out of reach, ventilate the room, never leave a lit tealight unattended, and avoid tea tree, citrus, pine and eucalyptus around cats. Read the guide.

How do I get old wax out of the burner?

Let it cool and set completely, then press a thumb on the edge of the disc — it lifts out in one piece. Never pour hot wax down a sink. Step by step.

Can I mix two scents together?

Yes, and it is one of the nicer things about melts. Stay within a family, or pair a warm base with a fresh top note. How to layer scents.

Do I need a special burner?

No. Any burner with a solid well takes standard melts — ceramic, stone or wood, or a decorative cut-out design. Only perforated oil-burner wells are unsuitable.

How many melts do I need?

A pack of six covers roughly a month of regular evening use in one room. Fragrancing two rooms needs two burners, not one bigger melt — scent does not carry between rooms well.

Can I leave a burner on overnight?

No. Never leave a lit tealight unattended or overnight, and always put the burner out before you leave the room or go to bed. See burner safety.
